Rob Kathmann manages our full service ICT department

ICT Director

“As ICT Director, I am involved in multiple levels of our business units.”

Rob Kathmann is our ICT Director. Automation and ICT products are a crucial part of any organisation these days, and Ballast Nedam is no exception. The challenge and responsibility of Rob’s position are considerable. Read on to find out what has made him love his job since 1995!

Why did you choose Ballast Nedam?
I studied civil engineering and dreamed of working on large projects abroad. I knew that Ballast Nedam was the organisation that could help me achieve this. I fully achieved my dream during the first ten years of my career. After a period of more focus on the Netherlands, Ballast Nedam is starting to return to that original profile, partly due to the influences of the parent company Rönesans Holding. I am very happy about that!

What gives you energy?
A project-based company is never boring, and things are always moving. Rönesans Holding has bought back the dynamism that was always in our DNA, while at the same time adding a healthy dose of business acumen. We are, of course, in it for the business.
The best part is that we approach all forms of information provided in a single, coherent concept, be it office automation, administrative systems or, for example, BIM.

What makes your work enjoyable?
As ICT Director, I am involved in multiple levels of our business units—such as the ICT professionals and the Turkish parent company—to keep the information flows and ICT resources well-aligned and economically viable. It feels like being a spider in a web and I like having a finger in every pie, which makes it a great role for me!

What are you proud of?
We supply full-service ICT products and services to all Ballast Nedam business units, including its German sister company, and often also to the project joint ventures with other construction companies.

The best part is that we approach all forms of information provided in a single coherent concept, be it office automation, administrative systems or technical systems such as BIM. Newcomers are often pleasantly surprised by this, but we sometimes forget to communicate it to the outside world properly. Here, too, we are bringing the international aspect back.

What is your ambition?
My ambition is to ensure that Ballast Nedam has permanent access to the best, most reliable ICT products and services to be decisive and distinctive in the market without losing sight of the budget. At the same time, working for Ballast Nedam should be fun, and the ICT department can play a major role in this. We are a company with mainly technically-trained employees, and they want to work with up-to-date systems without delays. So, quality and efficiency!
