Jan de Vries wins large civil projects for Ballast Nedam

Business Developer Offshore

The key to a project is the collaboration within the project team."

Jan de Vries started his career as a management trainee at Ballast Nedam in 2017. He got down in the mud, but also tendered for the largest infrastructure projects in the Netherlands.
“The key to a project is the cooperation within the project team.” This became even clearer at sea, where you work in isolation to achieve a goal. It has to run like a well-oiled machine, and achieving that is the coolest thing there is! All this in the wind industry, which is ever-growing and becoming more professional.”

For every project, I ask myself: what does the client want, and how can we achieve this together? As soon as it becomes more of the same, it is time to work smarter and differently.

Achievements:
Jan has worked on large, complex projects such as the A2 motorway near Maastricht and Butendiek. He relaunched Ballast Nedam Offshore last year, and is now expanding Ballast Nedam Offshore/Renewables.

How are you going to change the construction industry?
“By being different. For every project, I ask myself: what does the client want, and how can we achieve this together? As soon as it becomes more of the same, it is time to work smarter and differently."

Update:

Early in 2021, Ballast Nedam won a major new project: Maasvlakte II, the construction of new deep-sea and inland shipping quays. These new quays in the Princess Amalia Harbour will be built on both sides of the 2.5 km-long harbour. In total, there will be 1,825 metres of deep-sea quay, 160 metres of inland shipping quay and 360 metres of soil-retaining walls. With the exception of a 725-metre stretch, the entire harbour basin put into use in 2015 will be enclosed. The project also includes the construction of 160 metres of waiting area for general use by inland shipping ships.
